Don’t forget the wonderful Finders Keepers Design and Art Markets are on this weekend which are held at the Eveleigh CarriageWorks in Sydney’s inner west. These markets have gone from strength to strength providing an exciting venue for young emerging designers to show off their wares. Looks like some fantastic designers are exhibiting at this one such asGretchen Hill House Design, Sunday Morning Designs, Peppermint Jewels and Prints Charming to name but a few. Can’t wait!
We are hugely excited for one of our favourite artists Kareena Zerefos, who is holding her first solo exhibition in Sydney from the 4th – 10th June at the MTV Gallery. Kareena is a Sydney artist and freelance illustrator with work conceptually based around memories, dreams and nostalgia. Her distinctive illustrations combines traditional media such as ink, pencil and gouche with digital graphics. Some of her limited edition prints are available for purchase at modamuse.
Yippee another hope street markets is on very soon – Saturday 17th – Sunday 18th May. This time it is held at Paddington Town Hall in Sydney with lots of crafty and designer goodies to tempt us I’m sure! Be sure to check it out if you’re in Sydney.
Don’t forget that Hope St Markets are on again this weekend (Oct 5-6) with 15 exciting designers displaying their work. Normally as the Table for 20 restaurant in Surry Hills, this indoor venue has been transformed to accommodate this ubercool market. You’ll be able to see new designers who will be debuting their work as well as some others who are already making their mark in the design scene, such as jewellery designer Heartbreaker, felt objects by 0049 Design and the ever popular handmade bags by Kara Smith .
Wow- has it already been a year since the last Sydney Design Week? It’s amazing how time flies! A couple interesting events which I might take a look at is the Fashion from fleece: 200 years of Australian wool in fashion exhibition and of course the always inspiring Young Blood Designer’s Market, both of which are held at the Powerhouse Museum. I’m a bit unsure about the alien looking lady they’re using to promote Sydney Design though!
Hope St Markets are looking for designers to be in their Spring market based in Surry Hills. This is a great opportunity to get your work seen by loads of people. It’s a fantastic venue and setup for all you budding designers.
Hope St Markets is an exciting new market venue located in Surry Hills, Sydney, for young artists & designers which is launching June 8. There’s definitely room for a market such as this one in Sydney which will be dedicated to promoting new and upcoming Australian designers and artists. At the moment, designers get ‘lost’ in a sea of second hand goods, and cheap imports at current Sydney markets, so Hope St Markets is definitely a ray of sunshine for the design community. Plus they will be donating money from their proceeds to Hope St, Urban Compassion projects which help Sydney’s homeless.
What a fitting post to kickstart Modamuse! Sydney Design 06 has already started and will be running for a further 2 weeks. I am particularly interested in heading out to the Young Blood Designers Market which will be held at the Powerhouse Museum this Friday and Saturday. Can’t wait to find some upcoming designers with their creative goodies!
